在美上市的公司根据SEC的规定每三个月发布一份财报（也称10Q表格），一般情况下在季度结束后几周，上市公司开始陆续披露财报，这段披露财报的时间为财报季。

虽然美国政府指导性的会计年度范围是从上一年度的10月1日起至下一年度的9月30日，但是美股财年的截止时间由上市公司自行决定，没有统一的标准。季报的长度都有可能不一样，披露的时间也都不相同。

如阿里巴巴的财年从每年的4月1日开始，至第二年的3月31日结束，也就是说2020年4-6月为2021财年的第一季度。好未来的财年由3月1日开始，2019年12月1日-2020年2月29日是2020财年的第四季度。
