由于冷门股没有被众多投资者关注，从而估值很低。当下冷不并不意味着企业不好，只不过市场资金有限，往往在大势不好的时候资金抱团某几个热门板块而从冷门股中流出。如果冷门股是因为一些偶然的或者宏观经济、政策因素，不是公司基本面经营和信誉问题导致的股价长期下跌，那么此时就是绝佳的买入机会。

热门股被众人热炒后，再好的企业也会偏离其价值变得高不可攀，此时介入需要承担随时可能下跌的风险。热门股潜藏的价值早已经被挖掘从而体现在股价上了，属于已经严重透支未来，往往靠想象空间支撑估值。而且热门股不代表就一定是好企业，可能只是一时的因为上涨才看好的各种理由装饰出来的。
