美国加息后通胀率从长期看一般而言是会下降的。真正引发美国通胀率节节攀高的原因，是美元超发所引起的。疫情之初，为应对冲击，美联储紧急降息到零，并开启无上限量化宽松政策，被外界形容为“开直升机撒钱”。所以现在美国开始激进加息并缩减资产负债表，理论上是可以把货币宽松导致的高通胀率降下来的。但是现在美国通胀率高企也存在一些外部原因，最重要的是能源和粮食价格的上涨，导致消费层面的通胀短时期很难下降。

换个角度看，美联储现在加息的目标就是要把通胀率从现在的历史高位降至2%的合理水平，这个目标是无论如何都要完成的，但是完成目标所需要的时间和代价存在一定不确定性。
