当在个股的顶部出现上影线时，多半是出货，即个股经过长期上涨之后，主力已经获取较大的收益，为了把手中的筹码抛出，则会先拉升个股，吸引市场上的散户跟风买入，再在上方把手中的筹码派发给散户，达到出货的目的。

底部长上影线是指在个股的底部出现一个较长上影线的k线，多半为洗盘，即主力在底部拉升个股时，发现盘中的散户较多，为了减轻个股后期上涨的压力，则会在上方卖出一部分筹码，导致股价回落，收一根上影线，来引起散户的恐慌，抛出手中的股票，达到洗盘的目的。
